DB Studio no 1 Google

Posted: under Projects.

After three short weeks, “DB Studio” is no 1 on Google. Given that there are over 22 million results returned, that is not a bad result.
In fact there are 6 references to the website on page 1 which is all helping to drive traffic to the site.
Traffic has seen a significant increase since the new site was launched which has been marketed using both internet and conventional marketing.
The initial search engine optimisation strategy has been to get the ne brand name of DB Studio as high as possible in the rankings and build on that with the phrases that are key to this graphic design and Brand Identity consultancy.

DB Studio SEO Success

Posted: under Projects.

As part of the new branding of the DB Studio website, it was important to get the new name recognised by the search engines.

The company had a new domain to match its new identity and for a few weeks prior to launch this was pointed at a one page teaser designed to have the domain recognised prior to launch. The first sign of success was the indexing of the new site by the major sites within a week of the site going live. Googling DB Studio gives a page one result as of 15th May – two weeks since going live. No 6 out of 22 million results is a noteable success this early in the campaign. We will be reporting on progress over the following weeks.

We achieved this by a targetted on page optimisation strategy in what is a very crowded market place for the name. Meta titles, description and keywords were all matched to page content but with especial emphasis on the company name at this stage. This will be developed further over the coming months as the web site is crawled and moves up the rankings.

FCKeditor Compatibility with Safari

Posted: under News.

For the many folks out there in design land who use Safari, they may be unaware that their content management system (CMS) may not be working as intended. You will know this if the text boxes in the CMS show html code instead of a WYSIWYG format.

This is now a simple affair to correct.
Prior to version 1.3, Safari lacked the ability to interface with FCKeditor. With newer versions this is now possible. With FCKeditor 2.5, the two are now compatible. Just go to FCKeditor for the lastest version, unpack it and upload to your server.

You will, of course need to ensure that the fckeditor.cfg file matches your CMS’s setup and that the folder name matches that in your site – otherwise it won’t be recognised by the code on each page.

I have to say that I don’t find the documention in FCKeditor very helpful and the samples even less so, which is why I have used Tinymce, a Javascript based editor for most other CMS applications that I have built. So saying, FCKeditor is easier to use where there is a need to have more than one text box on the page with different height, width combinations.

DB Studio – a new CMS

Posted: under Projects.

As part of the revamping of the new DB Studio web site, we rebuilt the content management system. This involved looking at taking a fresh look at what the client needed and how to make it easier to use. The result is a very clean simple portal with lots of white space and simple, easy to use navigation. It maintains the theme and feel of the main website thus emphasing the new brand image.

In addtion, to what can be seen, we improved the coding for speed of use and security. Improved page load was achieved by reducing the amount of code on the page and using tableless layout, W3 compliant and cross browser compliant.

The original CMS used FCKEditor but an early version that was incompatible with Safari. Being a design house, naturally the team uses Macs and they were unaware that the CMS was not working as designed. FCEditor has We have added the latest version – currently 2.6.4 which has full compatibility with Safari.

A new feature in their site was adding dynamic header metas to the main page of the site. The portfolio page showcases current work being undertaken and it is driven from the database. This resulted in a large number of pages having the same meta headers and clearly was a wasted opportunity for search engine optimisation. Now that this facility has been added we can customise the met information for each page. The emphasis is on simplicity and ease of use for the client.

In addition, the url was converted to a search engine friendly format using a combination of new php code and Rewriterule in the httpd.ini file.
